On July 1, 1908, an institution was inaugurated that was indispensable for the provision of basic medical care. was inaugurated: the Alsfeld District Hospital. On the occasion of the inauguration, the following was said at the time: “With the district hospital, a work is being handed over to its intended purpose, the completion of which forms a milestone in the progressive development of our district and the realization of which may be regarded as a gratifying testimony to the social spirit of the district population. It is consecrated to a noble purpose, the care of the sick; the blessing that will emanate from it in the future will be felt by both the individual and the community as a long-desired benefit.

The new hospital will do away with the well-known inadequacies and deficiencies of both municipal and private nursing, and thanks to its modern, comprehensive facilities it will be able to meet the most extensive requirements in this field. The fact that the new welfare institution provides its valuable services to all strata of the population in the same way also gives it a social significance that should not be underestimated.”

The hospital, located in the northeast “on the outskirts of the city, completely protected and with an unobstructed view,” consisted of a main building and three annexes (construction cost 140,000 Reichsmarks) and is now a nursing home for the elderly. MNic
