Alsfeld heals!Inauguration of the district hospital
On July 1, 1908, an institution indispensable for basic medical care was inaugurated: the Alsfeld District Hospital. At the time of the opening, it was stated: “With the District Hospital, a work is handed over to its purpose whose completion marks a milestone in the progressive development of our district and whose creation may be regarded as a pleasing testimony to the social spirit of the district’s population. It is dedicated to a noble cause, that of nursing the sick; the blessing that will emanate from it in the future will be felt by both the individual and the community as a long-missed benefit.”
The new hospital aimed to eliminate the well-known inadequacies in municipal and private nursing by meeting the highest requirements thanks to its modern and comprehensive facilities. The fact that the new welfare institution provided its valuable services to all sections of the population in the same way gave it significant social importance.
Located in the northeast “at the periphery of the city, fully protected and with an unobstructed view,” the hospital consisted of a main building and three outbuildings (construction costs 140,000 Reichsmark). Today, these buildings house a senior nursing home. (MNic)
